Bob Leatham
Bob Leatham is a Co-founder of Pennine Ecological and has been running the business with Ian since 1996. He is a highly experienced former Lancashire Wildlife Trust Conservation officer and a protected species licensed ecologist with over 30 years survey and consultancy management experience.
Specialisms and Interests
Major national infrastructure projects, conservation management plans and habitat creation, expert witness at public planning inquiry, European Protected Species Licensing, and Ecological Impact Assessments, habitat and botanical surveys, great crested newt / amphibian ecology and licensing, river corridor survey (>400km surveyed), habitat creation and management, Geographical Information Systems (GIS). BSc. (Hons) Geography, PDip. Countryside Management.
Ian Ryding
Ian Co-founded Pennine Ecological in 1996 after working with Lancashire Wildlife Trust and performing other consultancy work since 1987. Ian is a multi-disciplined ecologist with over 34 years applied experience.
Specialisms and Interests
Botanical survey to National Vegetation Classification standards, great crested newt survey/mitigation and licensing, water vole, badger and otter surveys, breeding and wintering bird surveys, and expert witness (birds) – delivering proof of evidence at two public inquiries. Also, River Corridor Survey (>400km surveyed) including five full Catchment Summaries. Ecological Impact Assessments associated with commercial development and civil engineering, including industrial, pipelines/utilities, and renewable energy (solar/wind).
Patrick Leatham
Patrick has over 9 years experience working as an ecological consultant. Prior to joining Pennine Ecological, he was a senior ecologist at Jacobs working as the lead ecologist for numerous large infrastructure projects.
Specialisms and Interests
Highways England smart motorways, Environment Agency flood alleviation schemes, and United Utilities projects. Highly experienced in habitat and protected species surveys and holds a great crested newt licence. Experience undertaking badger mitigation and has held badger mitigation licences. Habitat Regulations Assessments (HRAs), and biodiversity metric calculations to assess Biodiversity Net Gain. BSc (Hons) Geography, PGCert Biological Recording, Full Member of CIEEM.
Stuart Macpherson
Stuart has over 12 years experience in habitat management and ecological consultancy. Working with NGOs in the south west of England and the Peak District National Park, Stuart gained experience in the habitat management of lowland heathland, semi-natural woodland and both maritime and calcareous grasslands.
Specialisms and Interests
Ecology Lead for infrastructure projects for local councils, government agencies and utility companies, survey license holder for bats, barn owl and great crested newt. BSc (Hons) Conservation and Land Management, MSc Countryside Management, and Associate Member of CIEEM.
