There is no accepted standard methodology for bryophyte (mosses & liverworts) surveys, instead the survey is designed to suit the nature of the site and the needs of the client. Generally, comprehensive surveys of the bryophyte communities present on the site are carried out, and recommendations are made for conservation of important bryophyte communities and habitats, where feasible, in relation to development works.

Our bryophyte specialist has extensive experience (10 years) of bryophyte surveys. Bryophyte surveys have been undertaken in relation to pipelines, footpaths, landfill, housing and hydropower developments. Our specialist has experience of surveying bryophytes in a wide range of habitat types, including ancient and recent secondary woodlands, derelict post-industrial land, stonework, moorland, wetlands and grasslands. Clients have included United Utilities and Lancashire County Council.
